Prospect News: Three Trade Targets for Every Position

Building a dynasty trading system of any kind can be tricky because most players are already at the top, which means there is no target context. Some dynasty teams won’t make trades, so the players they have are far off limits to everyone else in the league during their careers. Some teams will avoid trading with you/me for any number of reasons: response time, evaluation of certain players, general evaluation, trading approach based on Everybody Can Be a Winner vs. Optimus Prime approach: One will stop; one will fall, that kind of thing. I think you’re very good at looking for the kind of deal that wins for everyone. It leads to future trading opportunities and faster trading in general when people in the league know they can bring an idea to you and more often than not walk away with a job they enjoy.
I was able to trade Diamondbacks C Gabriel Moreno (26) in a few leagues last month, but that may be outdated, anecdotal information for now. He was still on the injured list at the time. Now he’s back and hitting in the middle of Arizona’s lineup as a 26-year-old. I would still shop where it made sense.
White Sox C Kyle Teel (age 24): Looked like a good hitter in a bad lineup before the season started. Now he joins a playoff-caliber junior lineup. It’s a good time to make an offer, especially if his teams have found suitable replacements in your leagues.
Blue Jays C Brandon Valenzuela (25) has been an elite pitch framer and power hitter with Alejandro Kirk on the injured list. That’s a surprising result from holding a backup that suggests it won’t be a backup forever. I think he will have to be confused for a long time to return to the bench. Maybe a timeshare, but that plays in most leagues.
You may not need to trade Giants C Drew Cavanaugh (24), but it’s a good time to pick him up if you’re looking for the long term.
Red Sox 1B Willson Contreras (34) : This boy is unusual. I think we’re entering a three-year reign here as he’s gotten out from behind the plate and is comfortable at the cold corner. PS: About a minute after I wrote these sentences, Contreras hit one of the aliens. A strong sign.
I have to start writing a little bit for each boy or we will be here forever. I just wrote a little about it Twins 1B Royce Lewis (27) in this space, especially that something clicked clearly during his trip to St. I think he can still buy even though he has hit three runs in nine games since returning from the Twins. He has played second base twice, so we might end up with some merit there.
Rockies 1B TJ Rumfield (26): Elite defense at 6’5” will help him keep the job. Coors will help him in the sectionals.
I don’t feel good about second base. The Angels have a potential keystone cogs Oswald Peraza again Vaughn Grissombut Grissom is injured and Peraza appears to be losing playing time. Anyway, I think Grissom is the guy to get here. He was just warming up when he got injured and seemed to be taking turns in his development. You can log in again Athletics 2B Zack Gelof (26), who plays home games in a minor league stadium.
Pirates 2B Johan De Los Santos (17) and SS Luis Hernandez bullies (17) both active home swings. De Los Santos already lost the shortstop job to Konnor Griffin, and Giants SS Josuar Gonzalez is a better defender than Hernandez.
Royals 3B Mikel Garcia (26): You don’t pay anything yet, I think. Three home runs and four stolen bases with a .260 batting average isn’t that hard to sell if you’re a contender with other options.
Cardinals 3B Blaze Jordan (23) is a rarity among third basemen as a powerful all-around player who will be part of a good lineup for the next decade or so. Also, I don’t think you have to play that to get him.
I was able to trade Rangers 3B Jose Ramirez (33) in one major league before he got hurt, and I suspect he can do the same at a lower price since he’s in IL. This appears to be the game’s weakest state for the next half decade or so. Things could change quickly, but it looks bleak right now. I was going to suggest a trade for Junior Caminero but floated the idea to my brother, who pointed out Caminero’s defensive flaws. I didn’t know he was actually the third most defensive player in the league statistically. The hot corner looks like an empty land when he walks across the diamond to first base.
With just four games out of 69 games, Diamondbacks SS Geraldo Perdomo (26) is doing everything he can to get us a discount. Not me. I’ve had him in multiple leagues, but that’s also the reason I know he can be a baseball player. It’s going to get hot, which means the ball is going to move a little bit further, which I think helps a lot with the sweet spot, the strikeout type like GP.
I won’t declare that a Rocchio renaissance is upon us, but I think so Guards SS Brian Rocchio (25) is a decent option for anyone looking for a reasonably priced option to build around for the long haul, hitting .274 with five home runs and 12 stolen bases and a 12.8 percent slugging average through 69 games. I think it has held up well given the changes in approach (hunting for pulls and lifts and increasing his plate abilities).
The shopping window is open Rangers SS Sebastian Walcott (20) is about as wide as it will get, barring a complete deterioration of his skills when he returns to the field. You can’t buy a top five brand prospect at a discount every time.
Holy cow I’m a guy over 1,000 words already. Stay with me and I’ll hit the gas. Go get it Diamondbacks OF Jordan Lawlar (23) if you can. His average perceived value does not reflect his first round upside. I will post offers again.
As someone who has Fans of Jackson Merrill (23) on his Razz 30 list, I can attest that he will be available in a trade. It’s not easy to put a price on the 23-year-old who is under contract until 2033, but it’s on the table now. Turn back the clock a few years, and you couldn’t find a counter offer.
Alexander Frias Producers (18) hits the ball. Click here to see more clips. On full disclosure day, I just picked him to be my Underdog in the Highlander League, which means he’s locked out of my 40-man roster (20 teams) for three years.
Jars are the last piece of the royal family. If Yankees RHP Gerrit Cole (35) and/or Phillies RHP Zack Wheeler (36) none of the competing teams in your leagues, will be important to me. Age is just a number on the mound.
Next I’m going to look at the injured guys who are a little hot Cubs RHP Cade Horton (24) and Braves RHP Spencer Schwellenbach (26). Here we would like them to be contestants so we can give a little help in standing.
Finally I look at the stuffists who may not be as low as Angels RHP Walbert Urena (22), you can get another gear with a new pitch or improved command.
I don’t have it close because you shouldn’t sell to close ones until you push for the title, at that time it’s very clear which guys you should follow: whoever collects saves the teams that are already out. I traded Aroldis Chapman to one league this year. I didn’t like doing it, but that’s what happens when you lose a guy like Edwin Diaz. Oh and I have Daniel Palencia in that group. He probably would have been a reasonable choice on a list like this a few months back. He now has three saves and an elbow.
