Ben Jacobs on Roberto De Zerbi’s summer rebuilding plans
Speaking on Last Word On Spurs about Spurs’ plans, Jacobs explained that central defense remains one of the team’s priorities.
“Central defense will be really big. We can go into each player because I know you have questions about Luca Vuskovic and Cristian Romero, but adding a full-back is a big thing, and talks are ongoing about Jan-Paul van Hecke at Brighton.
“They still have to settle for a central player – midfielder – Joao Palhinha. Talks are ongoing to see if they can find a solution without an option to buy. Other midfielders have been looked at, including Alex Scott.
“A starting left midfielder has been on the cards since last summer. And then obviously if Rashford were to leave – because I think Dom Solanke would stay – they would also need a number nine.
“So that’s four, five, six starters or first-team players in different positions. So it’s going to be a busy summer, and that, on top of that, with Senesi already arriving at center back and Andy Robertson obviously joining as a left-back.”
Jan-Paul van Hecke, Joao Palhinha and the winger are among the key targets
According to Jacobs, Brighton defender Jan-Paul van Hecke is still being targeted as Tottenham look to strengthen the heart of their defence.
The club are still in talks over Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott emerging as another possible target.
Moving forward, Tottenham remain in the market for a left winger, a position they have been trying to strengthen since last summer.
The possibility of signing another striker has also been raised, and Spurs may be looking for more firepower based on developments within their current attacking options.
Jacobs also revealed that Spurs are “very likely” to sign a new goalkeeper, with PSG’s Lucas Chevalier a top target.
Spurs could be a team to watch under De Zerbi next season
With significant support expected from the club’s management, Tottenham could emerge as one of the most competitive teams in the Premier League next season under De Zerbi.

The Italian has built a reputation for using an aggressive, possession-based style that focuses on high pressure and turnovers.
If Spurs can successfully complete deals for key targets such as Van Hecke and Palhinha while adding more quality in wide and attacking areas, they could quickly turn into real contenders for the European stage.
A busy summer seems inevitable, and Tottenham’s activity in the transfer market could ultimately determine how quickly De Zerbi can get the club back to the top of the Premier League table.
