Real Madrid fines Valverde and Tchouameni 500 million euros each for fracas

Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni have been fined 500,000 euros each by Real Madrid for their part in a fight that left the former needing hospital treatment.

This incident happened yesterday, 24 hours after a disagreement between two midfielders.

Madrid say both men have apologized to each other, and to the club, and an internal investigation has been closed.

The club’s statement reads as follows: “Real Madrid announced that, after the events that led to the opening of a disciplinary file yesterday against our players Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, both appeared today before the investigator assigned to the case.

“With this appearance, the players showed complete remorse for what happened and apologized to each other.

“Accordingly, they have conveyed their apologies to the club, to their teammates, the coaching staff and the fans, and both have made themselves available to Real Madrid to accept the sanctions the team deems appropriate.

“Given these circumstances, Real Madrid has decided to impose a financial sanction of €500,000 on each player, thus completing an internal investigation.”

Valverde is hospitalized but denies being targeted

The first reports appeared yesterday afternoon about the training incident involving Valverde and Tchouameni. Real Madrid later confirmed that an investigation had been opened and said the Uruguayan was at home after being briefly hospitalized for cranioencephalic trauma, which is a type of seizure.

There were suggestions that the two had a fight, but Valverde took to social media last night to deny that he was beaten.

He wrote: “Yesterday I had an incident with a colleague during training.” Fatigue from competition and frustration makes everything seem to explode in the right way. In a normal locker room, these things can happen and are usually resolved internally without the public knowing.

“It is clear that someone is spreading rumours, and since the season does not have titles, when Real Madrid is always under scrutiny, everything is under scrutiny. Today we had another disagreement.

“During the argument, I hit a table by mistake, it hurt my forehead which required frequent visits to the hospital. I have never been hit by my colleague, and I did not hit him either, although I understand that it is easy for you to believe that we came to hit or that it was intentional, but that did not happen.”

Valverde-Tchouameni is at odds with the latest scandal involving Real Madrid

An emergency meeting involving club president Florentino Perez, head coach Alvaro Arbeloa and captain Dani Carvajal was reportedly held yesterday evening over the incident following other problems facing the Spanish giants in recent weeks.

Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger and Alvaro Carreras have all made headlines for the wrong reasons with a series of games played in front of the media. Mundo Depotivo reported this morning that they believe Vinicius Jr is a mole in the dressing room that has made headlines.

Next up for Madrid is an ill-timed clash with a Barcelona side who will be relishing the upset of their arch-rivals.

Barca need just a point to win the Liga title on Sunday.
